The Hunger Games: Seattle
Sorry for not writing in about 3 weeks (again)! I really suck at this whole blogging thing. We had been frantically looking for apartments here in Seattle--We originally got a hotel for a week, thinking it would take no time to get an apartment because in Atlanta, you roll up to the apartment say I want it, sign a paper and bam you have a place to live.
We quickly learned that summer in Seattle is the absolute WORST time to look for a place--like the worst. It's like the fucking Hunger Games out here, every person for themselves, kill or be killed. Everywhere we went there were at least 20 other people looking so if you find a place you have to be ready to put money down then and there--no time for thinking, eat or be eaten.
Since we don't know the city we wanted to be sure we were looking in safe/good places and not taking a place just to take a place. We found a couple of places which were ok, but noting rent here is so freaking high, we didn't want to pay more than we were paying on our mortgaged for a 3/2 house in Atlanta for a 400sq ft slum. So we were patient (not easy for me).
We finally found a cute apartment in the Greenwood Neighborhood of Seattle. It's north of the city and we are about a block from the Greenwood center, which means we can walk to the grocery store, resturants, etc. We signed the lease last Saturday and most of our stuff was delivered Thursday. The unpacking is a lot as we are trying to find room for 3 bedrooms worth of stuff in a 1 bedroom, but Doug is amazing at unpacking--like for real if it weren't for him we would be living amid boxes with nothing unpacked, because I sort of, um, shut down when it comes to the moving. Hopefully we'll (and by we I mean Doug because he is amazing) have all the boxes unpacked next week.
I've gone to a couple of auditions since being here but honestly I'm not really focusing on anything except getting the apartment settled right now. I know I should be looking for a job, and I will, but this is the first time in my adult life (since high school) where I didn't have a full time job to go to every day--I'm not going to lie, even though I'm a workaholic, I'm enjoying not having to 'be' anywhere everyday. Sadly this means I haven't met anyone since coming here. I'm sure I'll have a job soon enough and will have to go go go.
Ok that is all for now--I'll try to be better about regularly blogging. The header pic for this post is Miss Wiggles amongst the chaos of our stuffs.
