This One is Short and Sweet because well, Iowa.

This One is Short and Sweet because well, Iowa.

We are now in the bustling metropolis of Des Moines, Iowa.  Doug went to Drake University here and this place holds a special place in his heart.  Since we are on the track to Rushmore, it was either go through Iowa or Minnesota--this was the shorter route.

We got in last night and Doug went to meet up with his college bud, Zach.  I stayed in because driving while hungover from absinthe isn't fun.  I plugged my roku in and binged some Grey's.

The dogs don't seem to understand time zones, so they woke us up at 6:45 for their walk and breakfast.  We then went to Doug's fave breakfast joint from college, Waveland. I got French toast and scrambled eggs with cheese and they literally melted a piece of cheese over the eggs--needless to say they weren't great.  You can see the pic above as the header for this edition.

We drove around while he showed me the sights of Des Moines, however I got a terrible night's sleep last night, so I asked if he could bring me back to the hotel so I could get an hour or two sleep before we have to get back on the road so I've been sleeping while he went to all the places in Des Moines.

Tonight we stay at Souix Falls, tomorrow we go to Rapid City and hopefully see Rushmore!!!! Sorry this post was short but I've spent all but 2 hours of my time in Des Moines in a hotel room so I don't have much to write about :) Also I'm happy to note that since starting this blog I've been to/through 7 states (I think).

On to the halfway point between here and Rushmore-Souix Falls!
