CHICAGO

CHICAGO

Ok so this was my first visit to Chicago and man is this a cool city!  I almost moved here after college but alas, I cannot take the cold ❄️❄️🌬❄️☃🌨

We got in Sunday (after a boring ass drive from St. Louis--y'all the Midwest blows), went to Gino's East, ate all the Deep Dish Pizza, then crashed in our awesome Air B&B in Old Town. Drool over our pizza:

Yesterday we started the day with some breakfast from Yolk did some major touristy things such as Shedd's Aquarium, The Field Museam, and the Art Institute of Chicago.  Doug was in heaven because the Institute has a huge Impressionist collection which he is super Into, in addition to his fave painting Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte which is the inspiration for Sondheim's masterpiece Sunday in the park with George.  We then went to the highly recommended Big Star Taco where I ate a (well let's be real 2) tacos in a Fritosbag-classy right?

We met some of Doug's college buds Kate & Steph at BigStar and they took us to a super fancy cocktail bar hidden across the street called The Violet Hour which was hands down the coolest cocktail bar I've ever been to.  Doug and I tried some Absenthe (I don't drink anymore but hey, when you are in a classy as fuck cocktail bar do as the locals right?  Also neither of us were driving because Chicago's drivers suck so why not), which was fancy and fun, and had a great time.

Today, we head to Des Moines which is a stopping point on the way to Rushmore.  The dogs get ansy after about 4-5 hours in the car so we are keeping pretty short days. At this rate, it looks like we may be in Seattle by July 4th, give or take a day or 3.

Now, Westward Ho!
