Pacific, Mo--The driest, hottest, place on earth

Sorry for what is sure to be another boring post. Things will get interesting soon, I promise! For the past few days I've been staying in the town of my in-laws--Pacific, MO.  Pacific is a suburb of St. Louis, about 30 minutes outside of the city.  I use the term 'suburb' lightly--they have a hotel, a McDonald's, a gas station, and that is about it.  It lies along historic Route 66 and isn't very picturesque. None the less, I've had a great time chilling for a few days.

Doug and I checked out the Missouri Botanical Gardens which puts my beloved Atlanta Botanical Gardens to shame.  Seriously this place is AWESOME! I took lots of pics which are still on my camera--one day I will upload them. I attempted to go to the Arch, but got a mild case of heat stroke so I didn't. Ya'll it's been like 104 degrees here! I had no clue the Midwest was so hot! Atlanta has NOTHING on this heat filled hell.

I ate St.Louis's fave Imo's Pizza, and while more cracker than pizza, it was super yummy.

We stopped here to celebrate my brother in law's 30th and uncle in law's 55th birthday at a big celebration called the '85th.'  It was at an old school Italian restaurant Pietro's and there were about 90 people there--friends but mostly Doug's family.  I'm always a bit overwhelemed when I visit his family because they have about a million members--there are only 4 of us in my family so it's a big culture shock for me.

On to Chicago!
